Severin Resigns from PDM

The People’s Democratic Movement wishes to clear the air on the formal resignation of Dr. Albert Severin. Dr. Severin to all intents and purposes ceased functioning as International Secretary and member of the PDM for almost two years now. On his own volition he stopped attending meetings of the core of the National Council. He appeared on the Party’s weekly “Political Education Hour” on the first two sessions and never attended thereafter. He would drop in on Party meetings held in the Portsmouth constituency but not address the audience. He issued two and no more Press Statements as International Secretary in the early stages of the Party’s existence and ceased functioning in that capacity, which caused the Party to recruit former Minister of Foreign Affairs & Trade, Osborne Riviere, as Advisor to the Party on these matters. From all accounts he did no work whatsoever among constituents of Portsmouth. Then, as elections approached and two prospective candidates surfaced, he took the position that being a Doctor gave him the automatic right to contest the Portsmouth seat without the necessity of a primary; the Party remained guided by its Constitution.

Persons are free to become members of PDM and resign from the Movement if they choose to. Dr. Severin de facto ceased being a part of PDM a long, long time ago. For reasons best known to himself, he has chosen this election season in which the ruling Party is spending EC$22 million to formalize his departure. His “resignation” has and will have no impact whatsoever on the fortunes of PDM on election day or thereafter.
